BimmerWorld BMW CCA Club Race School April 28-29, 2012
In 2011 the Trillium Chapter hosted the first ever BimmerWorld BMW CCA Club Race School in Canada at Mosport International Raceway (Bowmanville, Ontario) on the weekend of Saturday April 30 to Sunday May 1, 2011. This school was held in conjunction with our regular Advanced Driver Education school held that weekend. In addition to the race school, there were two DE student groups, with the traditional four on-track sessions each on Saturday and Sunday.
We have decided to hold another school in 2012 at Mosport on April 28-29, 2012. Please visit this website for further details and registration. Registration is expected to begin within the next few weeks.
Would I want to attend?
If you're considering advancing to the ranks of BMW Club Racing, or want to be exposed to new concepts and on-track experiences, then this event is for you. This school is open to all drivers experienced with high performance driving on the track. Instructors and signed off advanced students of the BMW Club high performance driver education program are welcome, as well as participants with equivalent experience from other recognized organizations. You will need to be a member of a chapter of the BMWCC or BMWCCA to participate.
We are also looking for experienced racers from BMW Club Racing and other sanctioned race series to help instruct. We need racers to participate in discussions regarding a variety of topics, take part in on-track exercises, and observe and comment on the actions of the students. When on track, you will be using your own car and not be in the student's car. You will also be able to make use of available instructor sessions to get additional time on the track.
What will you learn?
The weekend consists of an intensive program of in-class sessions and on-track exercises. There will be four classroom sessions and four track sessions each day. The classes cover such topics as the rules, race craft, mental preparation, practice and qualifying techniques, surviving the start, etc. On-track sessions consist of a variety of exercises, including two or three-abreast driving, leap-frog passing, practice starts, and simulated qualifying, culminating in a mock race in the last session on Sunday (optional). There will be no instructors in the student cars, though there will be instructors present on the track and in the classroom observing your behavior and skill and participating in the discussions in the class.
What should I bring?
Any car suitable for use in a BMW Club driving school may be used, all the way up to fully prepared race cars. Participants do not need race prepared cars, nor do cars need to be BMW's. Participants will have to complete technical inspections and personal waivers to access the Mosport grounds and must wear minimum Snell 2000 helmets to access the track (same requirements as for a BMW Club driving school). What will it cost? The cost to students attending the two day school is $599 (taxes included). There is no charge to instructors for Saturday or Sunday. Both students and instructors are also invited to participate in an optional practice day on Friday April 29. Cost for all participants on Friday is $225 (taxes included).
